As the Hawks make their way to Hollywood, one thing the film industry is aware of is that any film or television show that gets produced is only as good as its premise and its story. And there were few authors as prolific and talented to write stories that have translated so well to either screen as the bearded late Elmore Leonard, who died in 2013.
Now more than ever, Hollywood is all about sequels, prequels, and reboots, right down to their hockey team, making their third consecutive Western Conference Final, and their second straight against the Blackhawks. And it’s with that that George Lucas, one of the pioneers of the franchising of movies, and his beard, are recognized.
With the Hawks now in a series against one of two southern California based teams, and in the Western Conference Final for the second time in two years against a team from California, it’s appropriate that today’s beard be the frontman of two different southern (albeit rural) California bands- David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker.

As the series shifts back to Minnesota a known Scanadavian enclave for the Hawks’ last trip to The X one way or another, it’s fitting that today’s beard be David Sandström, drummer for the influential Swedish hardcore punk group Refused.
Now that things have taken a turn in the series against the Wild, it’s high time that the Blackhawks to begin taking their task seriously. And there’s no one better at conveying the gravity of a situation than serious Shakespearean actor Sir Patrick Stewart.
