Well, that should keep the “Goalie Controversy!” Tea-Partiers at bay at least until Crawford can cough up another game.
If you’ve come here for me to make you feel better, I’m going to fail you. Up two goals twice on a team that’s got a pretty heavy injury list… you have to have that. Pretty simple. You see it out in the 3rd period, you smother it away. That is if you’re the true powerhouse that you are. Yeah, I know. Second game in two nights. Not like you had to work all that hard on Friday. You gotta have it. You don’t give away one point, much less two.
And the warts that we’ve been trying to point out were there for all to see. That doesn’t mean they won’t correct themselves over the next 41. It doesn’t mean they might not matter over the next 41. But when the spring comes, a series against this Blues team or a healthier Kings team than last spring or the Ducks is going to come down to a few little things. And there are little things the Hawks need to sort out. In no particular order…

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: In Lou We Trust
Somewhere John McDonough is livid that the Devils are in town on Christmas Eve Eve, the biggest marketing bonanza of the year, and there’s now not an extra dollar he can wring out of it with some punny or hackneyed take on their name or anything to relate to Christmas. The Devil and Christmas; never the twain shall meet outside of the brilliant mind of David St. Hubbins. And if McDonough really had any foresight, he’d make the Hawks wear home whites just to make the jolly fat man on the opposition have to wear red.

It was kind of our sincere hope that Tortorella and the Canucks would have totally blown up by now. I’m sorry to report that it really couldn’t be much farther from that. Torts has the Canucks playing a very solid defensive game, and choked the Hawks out of space for a majority of the game. It’s not the most exciting thing, because the Hawks didn’t have much trouble choking out the Canucks’ space either for most of the game. It really couldn’t have been more clogged or tighter. And sadly, the Hawks found a way to kick a two-goal lead to a team that played last night and didn’t look all that good doing it. Slightly disappointing, but hey, the penalty kill didn’t get its upper palate kicked into its brain which I assumed it would.
Let’s get to the objectivity and observations, shall we?

In years past, a matchup like this at the height of the holiday fervor would have been circled and starred on the calendar. But as has been highlighted ad nauseum, whatever juice this rivalry once had has been diluted not only by time but by realignment as well, and the game in Vancouver last month was a decidedly tame affair that reinforced the notion. This will be the Canucks’ only visit to West Madison in the regular season, However that is not to say that this game is meaningless for either side.
