The Hawks begin a stretch of four of five games at home before they head out west for the Circus Trip, and four of the five opponents (not the Lightning) are pretty much fighting it at the moment. If the Hawks are going to have something of a surge before the trip, which they usually play pretty well on, there would be no better time than now.

SUFFERING SCOUSER LIKE MYSELF: Pension Plan Puppets

The Hawks take on the second half of the Ontario double tonight, sliding into the ACC for Hockey Night In Canada and a tussle with the constant narrative that is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

One would assume that this is where Corey Crawford returns to the lineup. He was the backup on Thursday so he’s clearly just about ready. He could be saved for tomorrow night at home against the Jets, but you feel like tonight’s the night.

The first month of the season is in the books–well, it’s the first three weeks but with the Hawks having played all the games in October they’re going to it just makes it cleaner to do this now. We haven’t learned all that much about the Hawks this month that we didn’t already know. They’re a very good team, they have a couple roster holes that they still haven’t really cleared up, and the power play gets a lot of chances but doesn’t finish as often as anyone would like, like a drunk male model.

So, what have we seen this month?

War on Ice

While certainly the most sloppy game the Hawks have played so far this year, it was far and away the most eventful, with four blown leads before things needed to be settled individually. That’s how fickle and weird regular season hockey can be. Contrasting directly against Tuesday night’s near-impeccable performance against the challenging Ducks and walking away with nothing, the Hawks came right back around tonight and sloppily got out of Ottawa with two points. But that, so the saying goes, is why they play 82 of these goddamn things.
