Extra Skater

All series long, we kept saying and thinking that at some point the Hawks were going to grab this by the scruff, play their game, and wipe the Blues right out of the equation. We saw flashes of it. The first 38 minutes of Game 4, but that was undone by 15 minutes of pissing down their leg. There were moments in Game 5, but that was undone by surges by the Blues. Then you started to worry that the Hawks didn’t have it in the holster any more, that something was missing.

And then the 3rd period happened.

Wondering If They’re Still Doomed To Repeat It: SLGT

By now, I’m sure you’ve read countless articles about the similarities between this current series and the Kings/Blues one from last season. Unless of course you only read this site for all your Hawks news, in which case, thank you, I guess. The similarities are pretty striking but don’t for one second think anything is a given in this game. While the Hawks record in elimination Game 6’s is stellar they must still focus on all the little things to fend off a team like the Blues who are going to be sure to throw everything they’ve got at the Hawks to bring the game back to St. Louis for one more go around.

steve-earle

When Steve Earle showed up in The Wire as a guide for Bubbles (if you haven’t seen this show, you’re blowing it by the way), it was almost too perfect of a role. Earle himself led the rebellious sort of life. He ran away from home at the age of 14, not exactly out of spite for his parents but more as an opportunity to follow his idol Townes Van Zandt. He split his time between San Antonio and Nashville as he honed his guitar playing and singing.  Earle’s battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol also played a large part in his music and lend him the gritty realness that was perfect in The Wire as Bubbles’ sponsor and mentor. He’s been a strong advocate of leftist political views and an outspoken anit-death penalty advocate. Primarily a folk and country singer, Earle has recorded over a dozen albums since the 1980’s. His music was shaped largely by his love of American folk and country with a blend of rockabilly and rock & roll. He also uses his Irish heritage as a source of inspiration and blends that into his music. And after last night’s win, sometimes it’s just a good time for a nice fun song.

An admirable evasion of whore-master man, to lay his goatish disposition to the charge of a star! My father compounded with my mother under the Dragon’s Tail, and my nativity was under Ursa Major, so that it follows I am rough and lecherous. Fut! I should have been that I am, had the maidenliest star in the firmament twinkled on my bastardizing.
