It’s unclear whether or not it’s ironic or appropriate or appropriately ironic that two teams from Washington and Chicago actually begin working on a day that began with a full government shutdown, the literature majors in the audience can determine that. What is clear, however, is that the Blackhawks will tonight raise a banner for the second time in the salary cap era, something no other team has done. And unlike the last time this happened, they’re in an actionable position to do so again.

Everything Else

Yes, it is on TV on CSN+ (channel 285).

This will be the final audition for the kids, but it will also be the first Marian Hossa spotting of the fall, which is usually an indicator of a bountiful autumn harvest.

Corey Crawford is a late scratch, with Antti Raanta getting the call up to back up Nikolai Harvey Birdman. Crawford is listed as having lower leg stiffness, which sounds like a Kane pick up line more than it does a real injury.

Have at it one more time before it counts.

After last night’s pretend game against a very real Penguins roster wherein the Hawks’ B-cast relatively held their own, more cuts came down today from on high.

The following players won an all-expenses paid trip to lovely Rock Vegas:

Additionally, veteran meatbags Brad Winchester and Theo Peckham were put on waivers, for the purpose of being sent to the Swine.

So what does this mean moving forward?

Staying out east, it’s now time to take a look at the other half of the realignment mess that is that conference with the Metropolitan Division, which consists of all of the Mid Atlantic teams, and somehow Columbus and Carolina, which is the first time either place has been referred to even remotely as metropolitan. Most of the punditry will tell you this will be the best division in the new alignment. But just because it’ll be competitive doesn’t mean it’ll be well played.

It had to come down to this eventually, but it’s time to take a look at how the lines figure to shake out given the roster turnover. At least for how they’ll probably look for the first 10 minutes of Banner Night against Washington, before Quenneville gets impatient and plays Handzus 18 minutes.

The inimitable Laaarmer wants to know:

Saad, Pirri, Shaw, Kruger, Toews. Who’s gonna play where and with whom?
(you all know this is the question you want answered)

Last week when solicited, you, the loyal Committed Indian Juggalo for the important questions that you need answered regarding this upcoming season, you certainly did not disappoint. Despite a maximum four-banner winning season from our Men of Four Feathers and minimal (by comparison) post-championship roster turnover, there are still some pressing issues facing the club as camp is about to break.

So without further ado, we begin.

With the unofficial End of Summer now upon us all in the form of the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend, it’s no doubt time to get in as much outdoor grilling and beer drinking while the weather still permits, at least sans parka and toque.

Because our magnanimity here at Committed Indian HQ truly knows no bounds, we’re here to help you provide a soundtrack to your extended weekend.

Everything Else

With the 2013-2014 campaign finally rolling around within the next few weeks, we’re going to be starting our preview, which we’re going to try to make as mult-faceted as possible.

We’d like one of those facets to be actually telling you specific things you’re looking to know about the upcoming season, be it regarding the Blackhawks or any other issues league-wide. The intent of this is to be far more in-depth than merely just predictions, as predictions just end up making everyone involved looking like an asshole, and I certainly don’t need any help in that department.

So whatever you’d like to know about 2013-2014 that you think we might be of service in answering, drop it in the comments and we’ll start compiling a list for when all this starts in earnest.

With yesterday’s news that the Hawks have signed their 2012 first round pick Teuvo Teravainen to his entry level deal, both the franchise and the player are presented with some interesting options. The contract clock hasn’t started to tick yet, but the unwashed masses of Blackhawk Nation (including this site) are more than a little excited at what the future holds for the shifty Finn, and have been since he unexpectedly fell into Stan Bowman’s lap last June at the Entry Draft.

Because both the current roster and farm system are relatively stocked with talent, the Hawks have some options, which it’s now realistic to examine.
