Mr. Carrie Underwoods: On The Forecheck

Have you really felt like you just haven’t seen enough of the Predators this year? The Hawks have only seen the Music City Squad once so far this year – you may remember it as the game where the Blackhawks finally remembered that you’re not obligated to always let the other team get one goal in. If you just haven’t had your fix of the Preds… get ready. The Blackhawks will face off against the Preds 3 times in the next 8 days. Predators games are always a bit of a pill, so make sure your fridge is fully stocked and ready to go.

The Wild

Hey Big Spender: Hockey Wilderness

I’m not going to say that the insanely loose pocketbooks of the Wild led to the lockout that almost cost us the season… but I will say that it added at least 3 months to it. I always look for arbitrary or petty reasons to hate other teams but I’ve never really had a reason to hate the Wild (they’re still no North Stars) but I’m going to go ahead and have one now.

Either that or Cal Clutterbuck’s facial hair… that’s a good enough reason too.

Not Getting Any Younger: Winging It In Motown

The Hawks can attempt to make history as a victory today will break the franchise record for best start, something this team tied last night as I’m sure you’re all aware by this point. It’s almost fitting then that the Hawks will attempt this record against their biggest rivals (at least historically). After last night’s game that was harder than it ought to have been the Hawks get no time to rest as the Scum have been waiting in Chicago since Friday’s victory over the Preds.

Everything Else

Moving on from the spotty goaltending, we now meander into the real minefield, the Blackhawks’ special teams. Feel free to interpret the word “special” however you deem fit. In a shortened season with minimal lead in time, special teams figure to loom large over every team’s proceedings, and the Hawks will be no exception. So shield your eyes, and let us gaze at the macabre.

Everything Else

Moving right along down the depth chart we now come to perhaps the most stable unit of the post 2010 era, Dave Bolland’s third line. While Bolland has never truly become the force of nature that his numbers in junior or his paycheck would have suggested, that he has become one of the premier checking forwards in the NHL is still a victory in and of itself. However, the line he’s been a fixture on is not without its flaws, Bolland included, and it will need to find consistency in short order for this abbreviated season to be a successful one for the Hawks.
