Everything Else

Juan_Ponce_de_LeonYou didn’t think we’d forget to make a beard post today, did you?

The drama and stress from last night’s game probably took several years off my life. And if the game didn’t, the whiskey afterwards certainly did. How could we combat that and the stress that will certainly come when the Hawks take on the Bruins in the first Original 6 Finals since 1979.

Well the Fountain of Youth would certainly help. And if there’s one person who knows all about the Fountain, it’s Jaromir Jagr… but he’s not going to help us so we’ll have to go with Juan here instead.

In actuality, Ponce De Leon was most likely never actually looking for the Fountain of Youth. Most people didn’t associate him with that story until after his death, perhaps to discredit him and make him look foolish. He was likely just after gold but instead found himself getting an arrow in the thigh.

And, I learned today that Ponce De Leon was actually on board Christopher Columbus’ second voyage to the Americas as a “gentleman volunteer”.

Everything Else

Or last night. Depends on your definition. Whatever.

There are many things to complain about tonight, but in the end it comes down to, “Survive and advance.” After the first 20 minutes, the Hawks were the second best team on the ice. They probably stole this one. But it doesn’t matter. You get where you can, and the Hawks did so. The historians won’t note that the Kings were the better team tonight. And that’s all that matters.

Thursday seems like it was forever ago (or maybe I just need to get more sleep) but the memory is probably still pretty fresh for both sides coming into a pretty crucial Game 5. The Kings are licking their wounds after a miserable third period that we’ve covered and reveled in for the past two days. If anyone knows that a 3-1 series lead isn’t safe though, it’s going to be Chicago, seeing as how they offed their rivals in the last series despite being in the exactly same spot.

For tonight, the Hawks don’t need to change much but can’t pause for a second and think the series is safe. LA is going to be a difficult spot to find a second win in and anything can happen in a Game 7. With Boston waiting, this needs to end tonight.
