    With a stretch of 10 of 12 games on the road to start the abbreviated season, including the last six, the Blackhawks finally return to Club 1901, this time in slightly more permanent fashion. With the next seven tilts on United Center ice, this has been the targeted time for the Hawks to make their hay since the schedule was released, assuming they survived the first quarter of the season. And at the risk of overstatement, it’s pretty fair to say they survived it just fine.

    Samoans Do The Humpty Hump – There’s little I can add to what Patrick Kane is doing. There are few sights in hockey more exciting than when Kaner is feeling it and unafraid to try anything. Literally anything could happen. It’s complete anarchy. Spin-o-rama pass right on the tape through three defenders? Sure, why not? Dance two or three checkers into a fucking hole? Check. Egregious turnover in own zone? Might happen! Only Tomas Vanek’s insane game in Boston is keeping Kane from atop the charts in points and goals, and good for him for being honest about wanting to win the scoring title. Just like when Derrek Rose admitted he wanted to win MVP, and then went ahead and did it. They both know that if they accomplish these individual goals, it will be good for the team.

    Have to say I don’t remember the Hawks ever playing a Sunday game in Nashville. In fact, I don’t remember them every playing an away, Sunday evening game anywhere other than Vancouver, but you all can correct me on that. Seems like Sunday nights are a home tradition, but such is the schedule concoction this year.

    Over the next couple days, you’ll hear the traditional, roll-out-the-cliche drivel that the last game of a road trip and the first game home after a road trip are so hard on teams. We heard it so much last year the talk may have actually caused the Hawks to mail in a couple of these, not the other way around.

    Musical Interlude – Mad Season

    It’s Friday, the Hawks haven’t lost (really) yet, and I’m sure we’re all feeling pretty good. With not another game until Sunday, let’s take a break from hockey for a bit. This was something I started during the lockout, and after all, we left SB partly so we could try some shit and see if it works. Don’t know how regularly we’ll do this, but every so often one of us will break in with a band or album we’re listening to, and you guys can use the comments to do the same. After all, we’ve always been about more than hockey, right? Well, probably not more than hockey, beer, and music. But it’s something!

    (full recognition here that my musical tastes do not stretch to either modern or underground, and you can make fun of me all you want in the comments for being square. I even have new glasses to back up that claim)
