How long until we see Stephen John’s in the lineup, and what should we expect from him straight away?
Johns has somewhat gotten lost in all the Teuvo hysteria, but we shouldn’t think the Hawks are any less excited about the Golden Domer. The Hawks tried to pry Johns out of South Bend for at least the past two years, disappointed when Johns chose to finish out his entire college career. But they have him now, and he’s clearly the best prospect the Hawks have on the blue line.

With camp breaking in South Bend, home of football integrity, later on this week, the sword of the salary cap still dangles over the Hawks roster. And with every passing moment the tension mounts regarding who gets launched.
Taking a break from eviscerating the players and people who made being a Hawks fan character-building at times, and going to look at the Hawks’ still lingering cap problems for this season.
It’s kind of surprising that Stan Bowman hasn’t, or hasn’t been able to get the Hawks under the salary cap for this season. We were sure there would be a deal at the draft, and there certainly were a lot of talks, as that has usually been Stan’s M.O. Bolland and Frolik were punted there the previous season, after all.
Week 29 of the AHL schedule featured the IceHogs’ final 2 games. The IceHogs still had a slim shot at making the post season going into their final games of the regular season, but the first game of the weekend sealed their fate of being on the outside, looking in.
Week 28 of the AHL schedule was a week to forget for the IceHogs—and at this time of the year, that isn’t something that needs to happen. After falling to Milwaukee earlier in the week, the Hogs dropped 2 of their 3 contests over the weekend to set themselves very far back in the playoff race.
The 27th week of the AHL schedule brought the IceHogs to Canada for one last time during the 2013-14 regular season. Before heading back to the BMO Harris Bank Center for some home games, the IceHogs stopped at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee to kick off week 28.
Just cleaning up some stuff going around today.
-Brandon Saad won’t travel to Philly tomorrow, which makes one think it’s pretty unlikely he’ll play against St. Louis on Wednesday. Saad basically takes all the depth scoring with him, especially with both Kris Versteeg and Ben Smith now on the top six, at least at times. Though at some point Andrew Shaw will score without the aid of Jonathan Toews. Maybe.
–JenLC at the old site breaks down how the Hawks can fit in Teuvo Teravainen if they bring him over (I don’t even know why I’m including the “if” any more). Basically it involves sending Antti Raanta down, as he doesn’t have to clear waivers, and calling up Jason Labarbera. This one makes sense in a few ways. The Hawks have two back-to-backs in March, and it’s questionable whether Raanta would be trusted with a start in either. He also really should be playing, and being in Rockford’s playoff push couldn’t hurt. After the Boston-Ottawa trip next week it’s likely Crawford would go the rest of the way anyway, so you might as well have Jason Labarbera back up. There’s a back-to-back to end the season in DC and Nashville, but there’s a decent chance one or both of those games won’t matter (if the Colorado Regression shows up, and members of Colorado Regression).
Oh, and Eddie O was on The Score banging the Teuvo Drum in his continuing efforts to carry the company message, because what this kid needs is tons of pressure on him when he arrives in a strange country with strange teammates in the hardest competition he’s ever faced.
