With the final installment of our team-wide preview of a team everyone knows pretty well anyway, we take a look at Scum’s special teams. And much like the rest of the team, there are still dragons here, but they’re not nearly as ornery or fire-breathing as they have been in previous years.

Now that the Hawks finally have a second round opponent, it’s time to take a closer look at the Detroit Red Wings’ forwards. The names and faces might be familiar and nauseating, but it’s a necessary evil. So plug your nose, and we might be able to get through this together.

And so brings to a close the Third Age of Middle-Earth, as tonight will mark the last game between the Hawks and Scum wherein they will be divisional opponents. And, as usual, the stakes are high.

NOT YET KILLED BY ROBOCOP: Winging It In Motown
If the Hawks are going to snap out of this midseason malaise (if indeed that’s what it is) in the next week or so, they’re going to have to do it against the Central Division. Seven of the next eight games — all in the next two weeks, mind — come against the Central residents (and it’s a whole lot of Predators, but we’ll worry about that on Monday). It kicks off with a return brunch engagement against the somewhat resurgent Red Wings. It’s as resurgent as an elderly squad can be, like that half-pep your dad gets in his step for a couple minutes after a big shit. Or is that just mine?

Go East, Young Man: Winging It In Motown
Oh, the lovely NHL Game of the Week. I can’t imagine how much this messes with the players habits, seeing as how hockey players are such creatures of habit. Instead of the normal morning skate, afternoon nap and whatever else they must get up to before a game, they get to just basically wake up and play. And it breaks the habits for all of us as well. Luckily for me, my favorite bar decided to open up early. God bless ’em.
