Thursday seems like it was forever ago (or maybe I just need to get more sleep) but the memory is probably still pretty fresh for both sides coming into a pretty crucial Game 5. The Kings are licking their wounds after a miserable third period that we’ve covered and reveled in for the past two days. If anyone knows that a 3-1 series lead isn’t safe though, it’s going to be Chicago, seeing as how they offed their rivals in the last series despite being in the exactly same spot.

For tonight, the Hawks don’t need to change much but can’t pause for a second and think the series is safe. LA is going to be a difficult spot to find a second win in and anything can happen in a Game 7. With Boston waiting, this needs to end tonight.

  • Piece By Piece: Blackhawks 3 – Kings 2 (Hawks Lead Series 3-1)

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Chicago Blackhawks at Los Angeles KingsThe Kings were undefeated at home so far in the playoffs. The Kings were 22-0 when scoring first all season long. The Blackhawks were without their best defenseman (and possibly just their best overall player). The Blackhawks found themselves down a goal twice in the game. And none of it really mattered. After a simply dominant third period, the Blackhawks found themselves up 3-1 in the series and the games shift back to Chicago on Saturday night. It’s not over yet but the finals are clearly back in our sights as the Kings need to win 3 in a row to close this out… and yes, that includes two games on the road for LA, where they’ve been awful.

  • Beard Of The Day – June 4th – Hacksaw Jim Duggan

    4541886305

A multisport athlete in high school – Duggan went to college to play football and was even signed the Atlanta Falcons before having to be released due to knee injuries. That’s lucky for us because if the football career worked out, we’d likely never really remember him. Instead, we got one of the greatest wrestlers in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Usually carrying his trusty 2×4 and an American flag, Hacksaw would become the winner of the first ever Royal Rumble and was consistently a fan-favorite. Also, he was once arrested for drinking and doing drugs with the Iron Sheik… That sounds like a hell of a night.

And right now, the Hawks are in position to go into a three-point stance and give a running clothesline to the Kings. It won’t be easy, but this late in the season, few things are.

    HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • Beard Of The Day – June 2nd – Joss Whedon

Joss_Whedon_by_Gage_Skidmore_3Every so often, there are times when a writer/director/producer can’t help but make something incredible. Everything they touch pretty much turns out great. Right now, Joss Whedon is one of those persons. Whedon got his first break when his screenplay for Buffy The Vampire Slayer was turned into a movie. However, the film wasn’t exactly what Whedon had in mind as the studio turned it far more into a broad comedy than the subversive twist on the horror movie concept Whedon intended. Not fully dismayed by the results, Whedon has gone on to a career full of critically acclaimed work that never rose above cult status before recently really breaking into the mainstream.

  • Beard Of The Day – June 1st – Poseidon

    poseidon_sculpture

One of the twelve Olympian deities, Poseidon was ruler of the sea and brother to Zeus and Hades. Commonly known as the God of the Sea, Poseidon was also know as the “Earth-Shaker” due to his tendency to strike his trident into the ground when offended and cause massive earthquakes. And Greek Gods always seem to be getting offended, don’t they? They’re either spiteful or they’re having sex with each other. Anyways, I figure anyone who can cause earthquakes is a good guy for us to use as a BotD against LA.

  • Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun – Previewing Jonathan Quick

    Jonathan-Quick

The Kings forwards aren’t going to make things easy on the Hawks defense, their defense isn’t quite as solid as last year but still big and strong enough that Chicago forwards will have to fight for every chance. But it’s in the crease where the Kings have their biggest advantage over the Hawks. In both series prior to this, it could be said Crawford was just as good if not better than the opposing team’s netminder. That’s not the case here. Jonathan Quick is once again taking his a solid regular season and turning it into a phenomenal post-season. If you were worried about Howard being able to steal a series, you’ll probably want to hide under your coffee table when you watch Quick.

  • Beard Of The Day – May 30th – Marvin Gaye

ClassicTracks_01I initially wanted to make Marvin Gaye our BotD earlier but thought choosing a Motown singer right in the middle of a series against Scum might not be the best choice. So it is with great pleasure that I present to you, Mr. Marvin Gaye

  • Scum At Hawks – Post Game Thread – Hawks Win OT (Win Series 4-3)

I’m sure Fels will be along soon enough… but maybe not til morning. Until then – Enjoy your nights. Y’all are the best.

You come at the King, you best not miss.

  • Beard Of The Day – May 29th – Questlove

uestloveHe was born Ahmir Khalib Thompson but is commonly known as Questlove… or perhaps ?uestlove. Either way, I guess. He comes from a strong musical family as both his mother and father were strong and active members of the Philadelphia soul and doo-wop scenes. Rather than paying for babysitters when they toured, they simply took Questlove on the road. Not a bad way to get your children interested in the arts.

By the age of seven, Questlove was already drumming in front of crowds. He studied at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (where classmates included Boyz  II Men, among others) and by the time he graduated he had formed a band called The Square Roots… more commonly known now as simply The Roots. Their 1999 album Things Fall Apart brought them initial fame and they haven’t looked back. Not content with just performing, Questlove has branched out into producingDJing, writing and even has his own shoe design with Nike… because… why not?

Of course, he also rocks a solid scraggly beard with an afro to match. And despite all he’s got going on.. he’s not afraid to throw down in a drum solo battles.

  • Beard Of The Day – May 28th – John Williams

johnwilliams3Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings Scum, Game 7, Last game as division rivals. That’s going to make for a pretty epic game, no?

Well, when you need to score something epic, there’s really only one person you turn to – John Williams. From Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Superman and of course Jaws. Williams has been conducting the scores for some of the greatest movies ever made. If there’s anyone who could write a song worthy of the game we’ll experience on Wednesday, it’d be him. Listen to this medley and tell me it doesn’t get you pumped up.
